Moving Minds - January 2005

Movement Tidbit

Theme - Winter

  • Teacher make snowman pieces three circles (sml), square/rectangle (hat), triangle (nose) circles/or squares for eyes and buttons.
  • Children assemble a snowman by moving the pieces one by one across the room.
  • Children can move across the room by performing the following movements
  • Child rides in a "sled" (laundry basket with rope).
  • "Ice skating" in empty tissue boxes or each foot on a sheet of construction paper.
  • Rolling like snowballs by somersaulting on a small

Laundry Basket

Uses:

  • Use as a sled, boat, wagon, fire truck, etc. where child pulls self across the room by pulling a thick or braided rope which it is tied to the door.
  • Child pulls self "hand over hand" to the other side.
    One child in the basket and another child pushes him/her across the room, not using a rope.

  • Upper and lower extremity strengthening
